Session 4: Clean-tech: The Opportunities in the Period of the Energy Consumption Structure Adjustment (Sponsored by Tsing Capital)

In 2009, a total of US$448.00M was poured into clean energy industry by equity investment institutions via 28 investments, most of which took place in solar energy sector, i.e. 13 deals. Against this backdrop, whether the investment boom in the clean energy industry can continue in the days to come?  

2009 saw 19 investment deals in environment protection industry, which amounted to US$85.76M, including13 by local investment institutions and five by the foreign. How are local and foreign institutions supposed to view investment in the environmental protection sector?

Wind power has been on a par with solar energy sectors in domestic investment, while the solar energy sector is preferred by the foreign. How to identify the divergences between the investment strategies held by Chinese and overseas investment institutions?  

Waste treatment plays a pivotal role in environmental protection. From 2007 to 2009, equity investment institutions closed 12 deals in waste treatment sector, accounting for 63.0% of the total number of deals in the environmental protection sector. In 2009, frequent investment was reported in enterprises related to waste treatment, and the number of deals went up sharply comparing with the last two years. What are the views on the investment trend in this sector? The domestic institutions are not so into the investment of the environmental protection sector and mainly focus on the liquid and solid waste. How are they going to explore the investment area?
