David joined WI Harper Group in February 2001 and is responsible for both life sciences / IT investments. In 2002, David was assigned to WI Harper's Beijing office to oversee its Greater China new investments and also assists in related portfolio management and multinational business development. Prior to joining WI Harper Group , David was a senior investment manager with ABN AMRO Capital in San Francisco, California. At ABN AMRO Capital, David was responsible for prospecting new investment opportunities, developing and executing various financing and acquisition strategies for life sciences, information technology and internet companies. Before joining ABN AMRO Capital, David was part of the Salomon Smith Barney (Investment Banking arm of Citicorp)'s technology investment banking group in Palo Alto, California, where he was responsible for analyzing, structuring and marketing companies in the internet, software and semiconductor sector. David also spent significant time at UCSF as a research associate and participated in the High Throughput Genotyping project for Multiple Sclerosis and was part of the authoring team for numerous scientific articles. David received his M.S. in Biotechnology / Business from Northwestern University and a B.S. in Biology and Chemistry from California State University, San Francisco. In May 2004, David led the investment into Focus Media China (NASDAQ: FMCN $3.2B) which later on became one of the most successful Chinese exits on NASDAQ, producing a 25x return for WI Harper Group in less than 2 years. David also partcipated in the investment/management for both Celestry Design Services (an EDA software company which was sold to Cadence for $103M in 2002 and the most recent DivX (NASDAQ: DIVX $1.0B) IPO in September 2006 which yielded a 40x return for WI Harper Group. WI Harper Group focuses on early stage investments in Internet, Wireless, Digital Media, Semiconductor and Life Sciences sectors, targeting high growth companies serving the mass consumer needs in China. The China portfolio companies under David's management includes Focus Media (NASDAQ: FMCN), iKang Healthcare, Panorama Images, Maxthon, Pollex, 3G.cn, HomeE, Beijing Xinwei, Mapbar, and Xplus. |
