Gary Rieschel has over 25 years of operating and investing experience in the information technology and cleantech industries. Gary is a founder of Qiming Venture Partners, a leading VC firm with over $500M under management, based in Shanghai, China. Prior to Qiming, Gary was the founder or lead investor in several leading venture capital firms in the U.S. and China including SOFTBANK Venture Capital, Mobius Venture Capital, SAIF Partners (China), and Ignition Partners (U.S.). Gary served on SOFTBANK¡¯s board of directors. While at SOFTBANK/Mobius, Gary invested in many leading technology companies with IPO exits at Infinera, UTStarcom, Concentric Networks, Verisign, USWeb, Net2Phone, Puma Technology (through acquisitions), Digimarc, Intertrust, and Critical Path, and large M&A transactions at GeoCities (Yahoo!), Art.com (Getty Images), Datapower (IBM), and Comergent (ATT). In China, Gary has led successful investments in TopSec, Yeelion/Koowo, ICE Entertainment, Touch Media, and AllTech Medical. He currently serves on the board of THQ, a NASDAQ listed public company, and Bank of China Investment Management, a Blackrock/Bank of China joint venture asset management company based in Shanghai. Prior to becoming a venture capitalist, Gary held senior executive positions at Cisco Systems, Sequent Computer Systems, and Intel Corporation. Gary holds a B.A. from Reed College where he serves on the board of trustees, and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Gary is an advisor to the Asia Society, Cleantech Forum, and a founder of JUCCE (Joint US China Cooperation on Clean Energy). He and his family live in Shanghai.
