Lip-Bu Tan is Founder and Chairman of Walden International, a leading venture capital firm managing over $1.8 billion. In 1985, Lip-Bu introduced and pioneered the U.S. venture capital concept in Asia. Lip-Bu invests primarily in industries relating to communications, semiconductor/components, alternative energy, and digital media. He currently serves on the Boards of numerous public and private corporations including: Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment (AMEC); Ambarella, Inc.; Aquest Systems Corporation; Beceem Communications; Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NYSE: CDN); Creative Technology (NASDAQ: CREAF); Flextronics International (NASDAQ: FLEX); Huaya Microelectronics, Inc.; Inphi Corporation; MindTree Consulting (BSE: MTCL IN; NSE: NMTCL IN); Multiplex, Inc.; Photop Technologies; SINA (NASDAQ:SINA); SMIC (SMIC; NYSE: SMI; HKSE: 981);Silicon Mitus; Solar Edge, Inc.; Teak Technologies; Telegent Systems; Tilera Corporation; and Viciciv Technology. He is also responsible for past investments in Premisys Communication, S3, Centillium (NASDAQ: CTLM), Endwave (NASDAQ: ENWV), Integrated Silicon Solutions Inc. (NASDAQ: ISSI), Leadis (NASDAQ: LDIS), Network Peripheral, Unisem (KLSE: UNI), and Centrality (acquired by SIRF). Prior to Walden, Lip-Bu was Vice President at Chappell & Co.; he also held management positions at EDS Nuclear and ECHO Energy. Lip-Bu received his B.S. from Nanyang University in Singapore, his MBA from the University of San Francisco, and his M.S. in Nuclear Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Additionally, Lip-Bu serves on the Visiting Committee for the Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as a Trustee of Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, on the Regent College Board of Governors, and as Trustee of the San Francisco Opera. In 2006, Lip-Bu was ranked amongst the Top 10 Venture Capitalists in China by Zero2ipo and the Top 25 Venture Capitalists on the Forbes Midas List. |
